The blaze was first reported shortly after 7:30 p.m., with visible flames and thick plumes of dark and yellow smoke rising from the railway corridor just beyond the station, in the direction of Franconia. Eyewitnesses initially feared an explosion had occurred, but officials have not confirmed any detonation-related event at this time.
Units from Alexandria Fire Department, including Engine 210 and Engine 208, were first on the scene, arriving within minutes of the initial report.
