Alexandria, VA – A joint investigation between the Alexandria Police Department (APD) and the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) has led to the arrest of Jeffrey Gary, 35, of Fairfax County, in connection with two violent assaults that occurred Friday evening near Metro stations in Alexandria.

Gary has been charged by Alexandria Police with Assault & Battery and Abduction under Code of Virginia §18.2-47, after allegedly attacking a woman shortly after 9:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of Madison Street, near the Braddock Metro Station.

According to authorities, the victim—described as a woman in her mid-30s—had just exited the Metro station when she was approached from behind. The suspect reportedly grabbed her and attempted to restrain her by wrestling her to the ground. She was able to fight him off and flee to safety, calling 911 immediately. No weapon was involved.

The Alexandria Police responded quickly and launched a joint investigation with MTPD. Leveraging public safety cameras and collaboration with regional law enforcement—including the Fairfax County Police—investigators identified Gary as the suspect. He was arrested following the execution of a search warrant early the next morning.

At a joint news conference today, Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire and MTPD Deputy Chief Daniel Alvarez announced that Gary is also facing Sexual Battery and an additional charge of Abduction with Force stemming from a separate incident at the Potomac Yard Metro Station that occurred earlier the same evening.

“Acts of violence—especially those targeting lawful abiding residents—leave a deep psychological impact on the community and are absolutely intolerable,” said Chief McGuire. “To the victims, we offer our unwavering support: you are not alone. We commend the courage of those who have come forward, allowing us to remove a dangerous individual from our streets. To the person responsible, your actions were cowardly, and our pursuit of justice will be swift, focused, and unrelenting.”

Gary now faces the following charges:

  • Assault & Battery

  • Sexual Battery

  • Two counts of Abduction with Force (Code of Virginia §18.2-47)

He is currently being held without bond.

Officials confirmed that both incidents occurred independently but within the same evening.

A sexual assault advocate has been assigned to support the Braddock Metro victim throughout the legal proceedings, ensuring access to counseling and additional support services.

Authorities are urging anyone across the DMV region who may have encountered Jeffrey Gary or believe they may have been a victim in a similar incident to contact their local police department. Survivors can also reach the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center’s 24/7 hotline at 703-683-7273.
