ALEXANDRIA, VA-This summer, Alexandria is an official Team Base Camp destination for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The city will host Al Ain FC, one of the world’s top clubs from the United Arab Emirates. The team will stay in Alexandria, train at Episcopal High School, and play some games at Audi Field.
“Alexandria is proud to have been named one of the 32 official Team Base Camps for this year’s the FIFA Club World Cup, and I look forward to the continued growth of sports tourism in our city,” said Todd O’Leary, President and CEO of Visit Alexandria.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is an expanded international club soccer competition organized by FIFA that is being played in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025. Al Ain FC is one of 32 teams competing across eight groups. The team is in Group G along with defending champion Manchester City, Wyad AC, and Juventus FC.
During the group stage, Al Ain FC will play two matches at Audi Field. The first match is on June 18 at 9 PM ET against Juventus FC, an Italian team with base camps in West Virginia and Florida. Al Ain’s second match is June 26 at 3 PM ET with Wydad AC, a Moroccan club with a base camp in Bethesda. Audi Field will also host a third game between FC Salzburg and Al Hilal SFC at on June 22 at 6 PM ET. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
Al Ain FC chose Alexandria as a team base camp after FIFA Member Association representatives scouted the city for appeal, training sites, and hotels, while also considering team and travel logistics. The comprehensive process also includes securing a highly vetted facilities to accommodate the team throughout the tournament. In addition to giving the team a host city, O’Leary said that the base camps generate meaningful economic impact through capital investment, operational needs, and visitor spending.
“We are excited that Al Ain FC selected Alexandria as its Team Base Camp site. I’m certain that the team and other FIFA visitors will enjoy all that our community has to offer,” he said.
