Volunteer Alexandria Food Drive Collects 36,000 Pounds of Food for ALIVE!
ALEXANDRIA, VA-Last month Volunteer Alexandria hosted its second annual city-wide food drive. FoodforALX collected more than 36,500 pounds of food at 34 locations. All items were donated to ALIVE!, the nonprofit which helps residents in need of food assistance.
“We are pleased with the outcome of this drive,” said Volunteer Alexandria’s executive director Marion Brunken. “It not only collected the necessary food, but also raised a lot of awareness in the community, Dozens of volunteers were engaged in this effort, as well as numerous businesses.”
The food drive will ensure that ALIVE! has more resources to support the thousands of people it serves.
Community organizations helped make the drive a success. They include: Passport Auto Group, The Hoffman Town Center, Lisa Groover Real Estate-McEnearney Associates, Harris Teeter, Fitness Together, Wegmans, the Kiwanis Club of Alexandria, and the Zebra Press
In a statement Jenn Ayers, Executive Director of ALIVE!, expressed her gratitude to Volunteer Alexandria and the businesses around town that kept a box for donations. “Donations like the ones we’ve received go a long way to keeping our costs down and provide a healthy variety of food to people who need help.”
