Alexandria Aces Fall on the Road to Southern Maryland Senators

WALDORF, MD – After an extra-inning thriller at home the night before, the Alexandria Aces couldn’t carry that momentum into their road game Thursday evening. Traveling to Waldorf, Maryland, the Aces stumbled in a 7–3 loss to their South Division rivals, the Southern Maryland Senators.
Things started off promising for Alexandria as they jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the top of the first inning. But that spark didn’t last as the Senators quickly responded, tying the game in the second, adding one run in the third, and breaking things open with a four-run fourth inning. Though the Aces managed a run in the ninth, the gap was too wide to close.
The game was played in front of just 32 die-hard fans at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, a 6,200-seat ballpark that’s usually home to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. It marked the first of three Aces-Senators matchups scheduled for this season in Charles County.
Starting pitcher Conor Hutchinson (Ball State) took the loss for the Aces after pitching into the fourth inning. Offensively, Jovan Gill (Grand Valley State) led the Aces with two hits in four at-bats. He got help swinging the maple from teammates Michael Powell (University of Pennsylvania), Gavin Miller (Pittsburgh), Ayden VanEnkevort (Grand Valley State), Tripp Capers (George Mason), John Colligan (Ball State), and Brayden Huebner (Ball State).
