ALEXANDRIA, VA – This spring, Curcio Law hit the road — not with legal briefs, but with bike helmets and a mission: to make cycling safer for families across Northern Virginia. Over the course of a month, the firm gave away more than 200 free helmets to kids and adults at community events in Falls Church, Mount Vernon, and Old Town Alexandria.

These helmet giveaways weren’t standalone events—they were part of larger local celebrations, including the Glen Forest Elementary PTO’s Family 5K Run (Falls Church), Alexandria’s Bike to Work Day Pit Stop, and Mount Vernon County Supervisor Dan Storck’s Summer Palooza. Each event brought families together to celebrate outdoor fun, promote safety awareness, and encourage healthy living.

“As personal injury attorneys, we’ve witnessed firsthand how devastating bike crashes can be,” said Tom Curcio, founder of Curcio Law and a lifelong cyclist. “Something as simple as a helmet can mean the difference between a minor fall and a life-altering injury. That’s why we’re committed to making bike safety accessible to everyone in our community.”

The initiative was powered in part by the Virginia Trial Lawyers Foundation’s Bike Helmet Safety Program, which equips law firms across the Commonwealth to provide discounted helmets and safety education to underserved youth. It’s a timely effort—while helmets can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85%, only 15% of children nationwide wear them consistently.

By teaming up with schools, local leaders, and fellow advocates, Curcio Law helped spark a regional push toward safer streets and smarter choices. “It was a privilege to stand beside local leaders, schools, and families in support of bike safety,” said Curcio. “These events are a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together—and we’re honored to play a small part in building a safer, healthier future.”
