Alexandria’s Virginia Tech Campus Launches STEM Summer Camps for K–12 Students
Programs Offer Hands-On Introductory Classes in Robotics, Coding, Cybersecurity, Drone Technology, and Space Science.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Virginia Tech is excited to announce the launch of its immersive STEM Summer Camps for students in grades 2 through 12, now taking place at the university’s newly opened, state-of-the-art Academic Building One in Alexandria, Virginia. These dynamic programs offer students a hands-on introduction to fast-growing fields such as robotics, coding, cybersecurity, drone technology, and space science.
Through education, research, and outreach, Virginia Tech is preparing the next generation to solve the world’s toughest problems—starting with engaging local youth in transformative STEM learning experiences. Part of their continued investment in the National Capital Region, these camps reflect the university’s commitment to STEM education, workforce development, and community engagement, bringing nationally recognized faculty and cutting-edge resources directly to young learners in the region.
Camp Highlights Include:
- Engineer a Robot Limb! (Free for grades 2–5, June 30 – July 2)
- Flight Lab: Drone Dynamics in Action (Middle and high school dates available through July)
- Data & Sensor Technology Exploration (Grades 6–12, July sessions available)
- Science of Flight and Data Detectives (Grades 2–5)
Each camp is led by Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and award-winning graduate and undergraduate instructors. All activities are thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity and build foundational STEM skills in a supportive, supervised environment.
Support & Accessibility
- Need-based scholarships are available through the program’s registration portal.
- Meals and snacks are provided depending on program length.
- All students and guardians must attend a virtual orientation before the program start.

Check-in and check-out will occur at the building’s main entrance. Parking is available via the ParkMobile app (Zone #85129).
