Hunter White’s Four-Hit Night Lifts Aces to 8-5 Road Win

Strong pitching and timely hitting help the Aces secure an 8-5 road victory over the Giants.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Hunter White (West Liberty University) went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs Thursday as the Alexandria Aces defeated the Gaithersburg Giants 8-5 at Criswell Automotive Field.

The victory improved Alexandria to 8-6 and moved the Aces to within 1.5 games of the South Division-leading Southern Maryland Senators.

After Jack Warner (University of Pennsylvania) and Ricky Barnes (Black Hawk College) reached base in the second inning, Elijah Grant (Presbyterian College) doubled home both runners to give Alexandria a 2-0 lead. White made it 3-0 with a solo home run in the third inning.

Gaithersburg got on the board in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly, but Daniel McGinnis (Eastern Mennonite University) added a sacrifice fly of his own in the fifth inning, scoring Grant and giving Alexandria a 4-1 lead.

The Giants added runs in the fifth and seventh innings, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

Winning pitcher Justin Borger (Penn State Hazleton) worked six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven. He threw 102 pitches, including 69 strikes, before handing the ball to the bullpen.

Ketz Murray (Fordham University) worked the next two innings, allowing one run and striking out three.

The Aces added a run in the seventh when Kory Barbier (Shepherd University) scored on White’s RBI single.

Alexandria added three runs in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Barbier scored when White was hit by a pitch. Matthew Pazak (University of Pennsylvania) followed with a two-run double that scored Jackson Sgro (Haverford College) and Grant, extending the Aces’ lead to 8-3.

Gaithersburg scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Harrison Ashley (Allegheny College) recorded the final outs to secure the victory.

White paced Alexandria’s offense with four hits and three RBIs. Grant added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Sgro collected two hits. Pazak’s ninth-inning double drove in two runs.

Grant, White, Warner and Barnes each stole a base as Alexandria outhit Gaithersburg 11-9.

UP NEXT

The Aces travel to face the Southern Maryland Senators on Friday, June 19, at North Point High School in Waldorf, Maryland. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

NEXT HOME GAMES

The Aces return to Frank Mann Field on Saturday, June 20, for a doubleheader against the SS-T Thunderbolts beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Alexandria will then host the Metro South County Braves on Sunday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m.
