ALEXANDRIA,VA–This morning community leader and Del Ray Gateway Committee member, Gayle Reuter announced in a Facebook post:
“Great news & thanks for the unbelievable generosity of our neighborhood businesses. Port City Fence & Deck Co. will donate & match up to $2,000 to the The Del Ray Gateway Night of Giving. We just need to sell $2000 worth of raffle tickets on Saturday morning. We did it last Saturday and I know we can this Saturday. Please stop by Del Ray Farmers’ Market Saturday between 8-noon. If you want to see an example of the beautiful work Portcity Fence does, look at my house at 110 E Del Ray Ave. Please thank & give Mike Dameron & Jen Walker a big big hug next time you see them!!”
The Del Ray Gateway is a collaboration of community members, business owners, and the City of Alexandria to redevelop the triangle park at the corners of Mt. Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues. The development will include the Nancy Dunning Garden (NDG), in honor of Nancy Dunning and honoring all that she gave to her community. In addition to the NDG, the Colasanto Pool (which has been closed since 2010), will be reconstructed into a wonderful and artistic splash park for the community to enjoy!
The Community Partnership applied and obtained a matching $48,000 grant from the City to assist with Phase I development and construction, and while some monies are already in the coffers, the neighborhood still needs to raise just over $42,000 by June 2018
