Free Seminar: Why Seniors Should Volunteer

RSVP-Northern Virginia hosting seminar on senior volunteering in conjunction with MLK Day, Jan. 20, 2020, in Arlington.

ARLINGTON, VA – RSVP-Northern Virginia will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s ideals and vision for public service during a special volunteer orientation titled “Realizing the Dream : Volunteering in the Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.,” at 10 a.m., Monday,Jan. 20, 2020,at Washington Liberty High School in Arlington

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about why volunteering with RSVP is “healthy, social, and fun” and how volunteering ties into Dr. King’s vision for public service.

This free event is part of Volunteer Arlington’s annual MLK Day of Service. Washington Liberty High School is located at 1301 N. Stafford Street, Arlington, VA, 22201. 

Who is RSVP?

RSVP-Northern Virginia, the region’s largest volunteer group for those 55 “or better,” personally matches its volunteers with opportunities that are fun, social, meaningful and convenient. Several of RSVP’s Arlingtion Area partners will discuss their volunteer opportunities. There will also be a short and fun service project for attendees.

300 Placement Opportunities

RSVP offers more than 300 meaningful opportunities that include helping seniors age in place, assisting local food pantries, and teaching financial literacy. RSVP also recruits volunteers for various community events including the annual Northern Virginia Senior Olympics.

RSVP takes an innovative and creative approach to personally matching its volunteers with their ideal opportunities, according to Brandi Morris, RSVP’s program manager.

“The art of successful volunteering in retirement is finding an experience that is fun, social, convenient and meaningful,” Morris says. “RSVP specializes in personally helping folks find their niche so they can fully utilize their interests and talents in retirement.”

Flexible Schedules

RSVP volunteers also enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings.
