    A free community event – Wednesday, May 8, 2019, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Auditorium, Minnie Howard Campus of T.C. Williams High School, 3801 West Braddock Road, Alexandria

    Suicide rates are rising across the United States for all ages and demographics. Addressing this major health crisis is Congressman Don Beyer who is a member of the bipartisan Congressional Mental Health Caucus and Co-Chair of the Caucus’ Suicide Prevention Taskforce. Congressman Beyer will speak about this issue and moderate a conversation among Dr. Marcia Jackson, Director of K-12 School Counseling, Alexandria Public Schools; Officer Bennie Evans, Alexandria Police; and Rhonda Williams, LCSW, Therapist and Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Alexandria Community Services Board. Their comments will identify risk factors and provide ways of helping someone who is showing warning signs. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions.
