Where Do We Go From Here? An Alexandria Town Hall on Gun Violence and the Future of Our City
Since the February 14th shooting in Parkland, Florida, students, elected officials, and citizens of all types have banded together in the fight to end gun violence. However, now that the March for Our Lives and the most recent walkout have passed, it is essential that this movement does not peter out. We cannot let life return to the way it was before Parkland; we cannot let people forget everything and move on, an occurrence this nation has seen happen far too many times before.
The strongest method we have to ensure change is to continue the conversation on gun reform, especially between citizens and politicians.
On Wednesday, May 16th, from 6-8pm, at GW Middle School, citizens will have the opportunity to attend “Where Do We Go From Here? An Alexandria Town Hall on Gun Violence and the Future of Our City.” This forum will give Alexandrians a chance to speak directly with THEIR elected officials about issues pertaining to THEIR city. After such a disappointing legislative session down in Richmond, this town hall will allow citizens to continue thinking about their role in such an important movement, and it will allow politicians to discuss their plans moving forward, to reaffirm that they will not stop carrying the torch in the fight to end gun violence, even after a hundred unsuccessful legislative assemblies.
The attending elected officials are yet to be announced, but the local, state, and federal levels will be represented. If you have a question for one of your politicians, or you just want to continue standing in solidarity against gun violence, “Where Do We Go From Here?” is just the opportunity to do so.
