Metal Quintet Band, Waxed, Proves Their Surging Metal Sound Is Alive and Well
Alexandria, VA — Metal is a genre of rock music that emerged in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s primarily in the UK and US, characterized by what many call “highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness.” The stunning genre of this dynamic music has grown big over the decades and bands still churn along to reach their own metal goals, including solidly rising Nashville metal quintet band Waxed, who released their new album The Continental Way on April 3 and who is playing in Washington, DC, on April 21 at Pie Shop.

Formed by frontman Luc Richards and guitarist Davis Haley, Waxed has become a full cadre with Will Alley on bass, Noel Richards on guitar, and Ian Sundstrom on drums. This five-piece hard rock band has spent years “melting faces” in the American South with a heavy pour of immaculate, repeated musical expression and an in-your-face attitude. “This has been our identity since adolescence,” Davis Haley explains. “Starting Waxed is when I began to feel like myself.” Guitarist Noel Richards adds, “It’s almost like the band has never not existed, it’s been a thing for half our lives.”
The Continental Way – which follows the band’s 2022 debut Give Up and 2023’s Idlewild, an EP shared with fellow Nashville rockers Soot – represents not only the reputation this band is capable of exploding, but also the multi-colored current state of today’s rock and roll culture. The new music has landed on several major playlists including Spotify’s New in Metal and Fresh Finds Heavy, Apple’s Breaking Metal and New In Rock, and Amazon’s Fresh Rock. Featuring nine tracks packed with a heavy dose of modern metal, thrash, hardcore, punk, and rock and roll, The Continental Way will “assault your ears in the best way and challenge what you think about conventional genres.”
Known for the intensity of their live shows, Waxed creates what they label as a “sludgy brew of heavy riffs, cutting leads, and quick turnarounds” that make for a truly unique, maximum power experience. The band has opened for superstar and recent SNL guest Jack White, as well as Converge and British labelmates Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs. The Nashville Scene has declared, “Truth be told, it’s virtually impossible to not get shoved around by sweaty bodies at a Waxed show.”
