Free Photo Exhibit: “Through the Seasons” by Eva Hartman at Canal Center Gallery, January 26

Alexandria Celebrates Women Launches Year of the Woman Artist

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria Celebrates Women is launching the Year of the Woman Artist with “Through the Seasons,” a special one-night-only, family-friendly, free art show by local photographer, entrepreneur, and community activist Eva Hartman on Friday, Jan. 26 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at The Gallery at Canal Center, 11 Canal Center Drive, located on the waterfront in the north end of Old Town Alexandria.

Hartman invites guests to “meander through photographic depictions of the seasons and contemplate rhythm and change. In its entirety, this show showcases life’s innate, ephemeral, cycle: birth, emergence, transformation, and stillness.”

“When I was a child, I thought my mother, Marlena Hinton, was magical,” says Hartman. “She was one of those people that had gobs of raw talent running through her. This was especially true of her artistic talent. Paintings just flowed from her fingers, as if something otherworldly guided her. While choosing my photographs for this show, I kept envisioning her drawing, mixing paint, and using her paint brush. She’s the inspiration behind many things I do, and this especially rings true with my photography. I dedicate this show to her.”

“Eva is a good friend but an even more amazing photographer,” says Alexandria Living Legend Pat Miller, board chair of Alexandria Celebrates Women, and a past chair of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts.  “This debut art show kicks off our Year of the Woman Artist, which will highlight women in the arts.  See you on the 26th!”
