ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Wednesday, July 1, the Society for Science & the Public announced that a $5,000 STEM Action Grant will be awarded to Rosie Riveters.

Rosie Riveters, a nonprofit based in Alexandria, provides a fun and safe environment for girls ages four to 14 to play, create, and learn STEM skills. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

“This grant is yet another amazing opportunity for us to continue our work to inspire girls to be strong, confident, and competent in STEM,” said Brittany Greer, Founder and Executive Director of Rosie Riveters. “We are excited to reach more girls through our distance learning content and continue our work to change the face of STEM, one girl at a time.”

The organization helps girls to discover their potential. Hands-on activities are combined with an innovative mentorship style. Gender stereotypes in STEM are discussed, and students have a chance to work with women in STEM-related fields.

Funds from the grant will facilitate more than 40 weeks of engaging digital STEM content. The content is designed to expand on the practices and teachings that Rosie Riveters already has in place.
