ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Zebra Press is thrilled to announce its new partnership with the local not-for-profit KH Giving. What does this partnership mean for Alexandrians? Here’s the deal.

Alexandria resident Mary K. Leonard, the founder and CEO of KH Giving, has launched Mission Masks. While encouraging residents to wear a mask, buying one from KH Giving helps give back to the community directly in two ways:

  • With every purchase, there will be a 15% donation to the Zebra Restaurant Relief Fund, which goes towards purchasing gift cards at Alexandria restaurants for raffle giveaways four to five times a week.
  • Additional donations will be funneled to ALIVE!, Alexandria’s main portal providing essential support including shelter, food and monetary support for Alexandria families in crisis. Cash donations as well as products such as face masks and antibacterial cleaners will be donated to ALIVE! to give to people in need.

“We thought Zebra was a perfect fit for this project. We are about the good news and giving back to local restaurants with real cash purchases sounds like a major win to us, while also directing meaningful donations to ALIVE! which helps so many Alexandrians in need,” said Mary Wadland, Publisher and founder of The Zebra Press, a multi-media company based in Alexandria, Virginia.

And there are prizes available!

KH Giving has had success with charitable giving in the recent past. Besides offering financial assistance, the company contributed $7,000 worth of masks and antibacterial cleaners (available for purchase and donation on the KH Giving website)  to United Community‘s food pantry in a recent partnership campaign with Alexandria Living Magazine. This effort played a large part in controlling the spread of coronavirus in the city’s highest-risk population.

Boosted by the impact her company made, Leonard sought to continue the work through Mission Masks.

“If everyone in the country was told you could possibly help to stop people from getting cancer by wearing shoes made of watermelon rinds,” Leonard told The Zebra, “I’m pretty sure everyone I know would be wearing watermelon shoes.”

“How could we pass up a chance to sponsor a project like this where local restaurants would benefit so significantly?” said Zebra Publisher Mary Wadland. (Photo: Emily Klassen)
