Color Your World: Unique Ways To Use Paint in a Room

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Interior décor is about expression. It’s about creating a space that expresses your personality and that you love to live in. So why constrain yourself to what some people see as “classy” and “elegant”? Life is too short to live in a space that doesn’t excite you. It’s time to let out your inner artist with these unique ways to use paint in a room.

Statement Wall

Any interior designer will tell you that most cohesive room designs have a focal point in the room that draws your eye. To create a focal point, many homeowners choose to create an “accent wall,” one wall that’s painted a different color than the others. While that’s a great way to bring color into a space, you can go brighter and bolder by turning your accent wall into an accent canvas.

A statement wall can be subtle or bold, depending on your taste. Some choose to paint their wall with a geometric pattern like overlapping shapes or tessellations. You can also choose to create your own abstract art with bright splashes of color. Or if you’re particularly artistically inclined, you can paint a mural. Painted flowers, trees, and scenery are solid choices for this, but feel free to let your imagination run wild.

Furniture

But why stop at the walls? Furniture can become a focal point with a bold enough paint choice. Or if you want your furniture to blend into your room’s color scheme, you can paint it more neutral tones to fit right in. If your furniture is old, breathe new life into it with a fresh coat of paint. Scratches and scuffs will disappear under waves of color, and pieces that felt out of date will become fresh and trendy.

Floors

Just because something spends most of its time beneath your feet, that doesn’t mean it can’t look awesome. Like our other unique ways to use paint in a room, you can use paint on the floor subtly or boldly. If you paint the floor correctly, you can keep them looking neat and polished with a neutral or white, or you can paint it in bright colors and patterns to create a statement.

Ceiling

When most people paint a room, they stop at the top of the walls. It’s a shame because painting the ceiling has a way of completely transforming a space. Want to make a room feel larger? Paint the ceiling a light color. Want it to feel smaller? Paint it a dark color. You can also give your guests something interesting to look at by painting designs or patterns.

If you want to incorporate a theme into a child’s bedroom, there’s no better way than to paint the ceiling—a starry host for a space-themed bedroom, a big-top pattern for a circus theme, or some puffy clouds for a travel theme room. The possibilities are endless!
