Alexandria Choral Society Presents Holiday Concert ON THIS SHINING NIGHT

December 9th concert at the George Washington Masonic Memorial to be a festive affair

Alexandria, VA – Alexandria Choral Society (ACS) will present its upcoming winter program, On This Shining Night, at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th.

Led by new Artistic Director Brian J. Isaac, ACS’s program features new settings of familiar texts in Jan Sandström’s Lo, How a Rose e’er Blooming and June Nixon’s The Holly & the Ivy.

The ensemble will also be performing Ēriks Ešenvalds’ Stars, a work for choir and tuned glasses, which depicts the stark beauty of a clear winter sky at night. The work is a stunning companion to Morten Lauridsen’s Sure On This Shining Night. Finally, J.S. Bach’s Dona Nobis Pacem (from Mass in B-minor), will leave the audience with a very important message — “grant us peace.”

ACS will also be presenting traditional holiday carols and feature performances by its chamber choir, Pro Coro Alexandria. They will be joined by two local musicians, organist Stephen Kalnoske and harpist Nadia Pessoa. Afterwards, ACS invites its patrons for a festive holiday reception.

Tickets are available online at www.alexandriachoralsociety.org/boxoffice and are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, members of the military, and students. Children 13 and under are admitted free. (Tickets are also available at the door for an additional $5 from the online price.)

Pro Coro Alexandria will be making two additional community appearances this December. First, they will perform at the Torpedo Factory Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 2nd, as well as participating in the Willard Hotel’s Holiday Lobbying performance series on Monday, December 4th. Both events are free of charge to attend.
