ALEXANDRIA, VA-On Saturday, March 13, Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) will host the 2021 Virtual Annual Gala and Silent Auction from 6:30-8 p.m. Usually an in-person tradition, the event was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SSA’s purpose is to provide services and programs that help foster independence and allow elderly residents to age with dignity.

The gala will honor three individuals who have served the Alexandria community through their work, activism, and philanthropy. They are former mayor of Alexandria William D. Euille; Barbara Anderson, Esq.; and C. Eugene Steuerle.

“This year’s honorees…are community leaders who have made our city a wonderful place in which to live at any age,” said Maribeth Bersani, Senior Services of Alexandria’s Board Chair.

Euille, who is a lifelong Alexandrian, has used his time in public service to ensure that the city is a thriving and prosperous community. Anderson, an elder law attorney, has advocated for many clients over the years and  worked to improve their lives. Steuerle has called Alexandria home for more than four decades and participated in charity work continuously over that period.

SSA will also bestow a special honor to Kate Garvey, Director of the Department of Human and Community Services. Her leadership has helped determine how community agencies and nonprofits have responded during the pandemic.

“All of these honorees have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all Alexandria’s residents including its older adults,” said Bersani.
