Alexandria, VA – As Valentine’s Day approaches, The Cut Butchery is celebrating not only the holiday itself but also the shop’s one-year anniversary. Owner Alex Kilroy says the celebration is less about a single day and more about gratitude — for customers, staff, and the community that helped the business make its home in Hollin Hall.

“For us, it’s really about saying thank you,” Kilroy said. “We’re just trying to say thank you in as many ways as we can.”

For Valentine’s Day, The Cut will offer a special takeout prix fixe menu designed for customers who opt to celebrate at home. The menu includes entrees such as lobster tails and a beef Wellington intended to serve two, along with optional add-ons like champagne, caviar, and charcuterie boards.

“This is our take on a takeout prix fixe menu – we’re encouraging people to cook in instead of going out,” Kilroy said. “If you go out on Saturday, cook in on Friday—that’s kind of the idea.” Or skip the crowds on Saturday and treat yourselves to a gourmet dinner in your own home.

Rather than limiting the celebration to February 14, The Cut has plans for the entire week leading up to Valentine’s Day and its anniversary celebration. Throughout the week, the shop will feature rotating specials, highlight staff members on social media, and share throwback photos from the store’s construction and opening.

“Valentine’s Day happens to fall right around our one-year anniversary, so we’re treating the whole week as a celebration,” Kilroy said.

Inside the shop, customers will also notice a wall dedicated to handwritten thank-you notes. Visitors are invited to leave messages for the butchers or for anyone at the shop who has helped them over the past year. Sharing the love, staff will attach handwritten thank-you notes to customer bags throughout the week.

“It’s not going to be anything elaborate,” Kilroy said. “Just something small and personal so people know we’re grateful.”

On Valentine’s Day itself, The Cut will provide roses from The Virginia Florist and festive decorations from It’s Poppin ALX Balloon Decor, recreating the welcoming atmosphere from the shop’s opening weekend.

The Cut’s focus on high-quality meat, seafood, and cheese, provided by local purveyors with expert in-store customer service, has been a constant from the beginning. Since then, Kilroy says the business has continued to grow as more customers discover the shop’s offerings, including its expanding seafood selection. Pre-orders are highly encouraged, either over the phone or online with a follow-up call to confirm.

“People are still discovering us,” he said. “That’s been one of the most rewarding parts of this first year.”

The Valentine’s Day and anniversary celebrations run throughout the week leading up to February 14, with special menus, in-store displays, and thank-you notes available while supplies last.
