ALEXANDRIA, VA – Late yesterday, in their Volunteer E-News, Volunteer Alexandria shared some amazing statistics, showing just how much the community cares. In 2021, more than 1,760 people gave their time and effort to support projects led by the nonprofit. Total volunteer hours added up to more than 62,560 hours, which amounts to  a monetary value of $1,780,713.

Volunteer Alexandria is planning to present awards to organizations and people who made a difference. Honorees include the Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Team. Florence King will be honored posthumously. More will be announced next Monday via Volunteer Alexandria’s website and social media platforms.

“Without volunteers, our hard-working nonprofits would not be able to fulfill their missions and we couldn’t do what we do to serve our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Justin Wilson, who co-chairs Volunteers are the Heart of Alexandria, with Vice Mayor Amy Jackson. “The donation of time, talents and skills of our community’s volunteers make Alexandria a better place for all of us.”
