Show your love of art this February by going to one (or several!) of the amazing art events going on this month in Alexandria!
Alexandria, VA – The Art League celebrates its 52nd Annual Patrons Show fundraiser at the Torpedo Factory Sunday, February 16, 6:00 PM to midnight. Over 600 works of art donated by Art League and Torpedo Factory artists are auctioned by a lottery system. Patron Show ticket holders are assigned a random number correlating to the number of art works donated. The auctioneer calls your number and you must quickly decide which work to select from the remaining pieces.
The number of tickets sold is limited to the artwork donated so get your tickets NOW!!!! It’s always the hottest ticket in the DMV. The art is on display two weeks before the event. Ticket holders and the curious alike can be found studying the donated art, many deep in thought or discussion, making hard deliberations over their first through 600th-something choice. It’s one of the best parties of the year! New this year is Patron Show seating aboard the riverboat Cherry Blossom docked just outside the Torpedo Factory Art Center with video monitoring, expanding the art soirée to the Potomac River.
Tickets are $225 for a single ticket and $330 for a couples ticket with two seats and one piece of artwork. Guest tickets are $165. Can’t make the event or tickets are sold out? There is a first-choice raffle with tickets available for sale at the Art League in the days prior to the fundraiser and up until 6:00 PM when the Torpedo Factory closes to the public for the event. Winner of the raffle need not be present to get the first choice. Patron ticket holders must be present to choose and take home their art.
· The Athenaeum at 201 Prince Street, Alexandria opens a new show, “The Human Condition: exploring the body as object” on exhibit February 13 ~ March 22. There is an opening reception Sunday, February 16 from 4-6 PM. Stop by before the Patron’s Show at the Torpedo Factory.
· Del Ray Artisans new show, Kondo vs. Chaos, opens Friday, February 7 with an opening reception from 7-9 PM. The event and exhibit is free and open to the public. This novel exhibit creatively explores the juxtaposition of the Marie Mondo credo, maintaining opposition to clutter with its counterpoint- a more helter-skelter, undisciplined order and possession-focused environment. The exhibit at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria closes March 1, 2020.
· Fiberworks in Studio 14 at the Torpedo Factory is the place to be for Valentine gift inspiration. It’s red, pink, and garnet galore throughout the gallery with divine inspiration for Cupid to help find the perfect “be mine” for your heart’s desire.
· Principle Gallery at 208 King Street in Old Town is getting a jump on spring with a group exhibition of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters throughout the month. There is an artists’ reception February 21 from 6:30-9:30 PM. It’s free and open to the public.
· Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery in Studio 29 of the Torpedo Factory presents their new show, “Architecture in Fiber“, inspired by the extraordinary structures of historic Alexandria and the nation’s capital, February 13- March 15. The gallery focuses upon works utilizing fibers of all kinds- from wool and silk to man-made fibers and even metal, creating unique fashionable fiber fashion to wall art. Great gift source for your Valentine. Non architectural-thematic work will be on display and available for purchase as well.
· The Target Gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center presents “My Queer Valentine” January 25 ~ March 8. Opening reception is Friday, February 14 from 7-10 PM. Free interactive performance art, photo kissing booth, Do-It-Yourself art making activities and more! Andy Johnson, Director of Gallery 102 at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design is the juror for this exhibit exploring love through non-heteronormative and non-binary relationships.
· Palette 22 Restaurant in Shirlington, 4053 Campbell Avenue: Modern street food spanning the globe is served in a bustling arts studio and eclectic gallery atmosphere.” Food. Art. Fun.” is their motto. Artful dining with demonstration artists on the premises and exciting art to go. All the work is available to take home. Palette 22 is celebrating its fourth anniversary February 22nd. Come for the food, stay for the art.
