What would you do if you saw a White Elephant in your neighborhood? Stare? Run? Try to pet it?

Well, no need to do any of those things, just participate in Good Shepherd Catholic Church’s annual White Elephant Yard Sale on Saturday, September 2. Held as part of the International Festival’s Labor Day weekend celebration, this wonderful yard sale is inside – air conditioned – and has 5,000 sq feet of treasures, all at wonderfully affordable prices.

Think how you might redecorate your bedroom with pretty linens and spreads, or find that wonderful piece of crystal that will make the simplest flowers look gorgeous. Maybe you need new small kitchen appliances or dishes, new games for the children, a rug for your den, baby items, jewelry, or even new Christmas decorations. This White Elephant Yard Sale has it all.

Come to the church between 8:30 am and 4 pm, browse, buy, and chat with friends, neighbors and the many volunteers it takes to put this event together. For early birds who arrive between 8:30 am and 9:30am, there is a $10 admission charge, but entry is free after that. And, the best part is that 100% of the net proceeds from the Festival goes to charities and non-profits that assist those in need.

Past recipients from the Festival proceeds include such organizations as: Alice’s Kids, Liberty’s Promise, Bethany House of Northern Virginia and the Culmore Clinic. Think of how much your purchase will mean to one of these great causes. It certainly takes a village to keep these non-profits up and running, so come for a fun event and help your community at the same time.

Of course, your donations of items including arts and crafts, automotive, baby items, baskets, bikes, new candles, CD’s and DVD’s, games, puzzles, glasses, dishes, hardware, home decorating items, jewelry, watches, knickknacks, lamps, lawn, linen, luggage, school supplies, rugs, collectibles, sewing machines, small appliances, sporting goods and toys are welcome starting Saturday, August 12. A tax deductible receipt will be provided to you when you drop off these items at Good Shepherd Church, 8710 Mt Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309. (Due to health and safety regulations, as well as past experience, there are some items we just cannot accept for the sale. Please check our Web site for details: gs-cc.org/if-yard-sale.html.)

So, mark your calendar today for Saturday, September 2, 2017 and come enjoy this huge White Elephant Yard Sale. And then return for a multi-cultural Mass on September 3rd and then a day

of fun on Labor Day where there will be food booths of various countries, games for the kids, bingo (inside) for the families, music galore and a raffle for $10,000. See you there!
