Alexandria Offering New Half-Day Winter Community Police Academy
Get to Know Your Alexandria Police Department–Deadline to Register is January 5
Thanks to the popularity of the 10-week Community Police Academy, APD is offering two half-day classes in January and February 2018. This academy allows residents and community members to learn about various aspects of the Police Department during the winter months. Topics will include patrol operations, use of force policies, the K9 Unit, Special Operations Team, crime scene investigation and criminal investigations.
There are two half-day sessions offered this winter: Saturday, January 27, 2018, and Saturday, February 17, 2018. The sessions will be held at Alexandria Police Department Headquarters at 3600 Wheeler Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sessions will start with registration at 8:30 a.m.
This free class is limited in size to approximately 45 participants per session. Participants of this half-day Community Police Academy must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in the City of Alexandria. In addition, criminal history checks will be conducted on all applicants for final approval of acceptance.
The curriculum covers the core elements that are essential for participants to gain a greater understanding of police operations. As a result of their participation, residents can make more informed judgments about APD and its daily operations. Simultaneously, APD is able to acquire a greater understanding of the views and concerns of the community through an enhanced relationship with the public.
