Pork Barrel BBQ Owner Reacts to Government Shutdown
Owner Bill Blackburn Offers Free Pork Sandwiches to Federal Workers Starting Monday
ALEXANDRIA, VA–Bill Blackburn, restaurant owner and community leader, said he watched the government like everyone else this past week, hoping there would be a resolution. Disappointed, he is not only helping feed federal employees laid off during this uncertain time by offering free pulled pork sandwiches starting Monday (one per federal employee per workday until the shutdown is over), but he’s also hoping his award-winning barbecue can help heal the conflict by offering members of Congress free lunches if they want to sit down with their opponents and hash it out in his good old fashioned American neighborhood restaurant.
On Saturday morning, January 20, 2018, Blackburn, who is the current Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year, posted the generous offer on the Pork Barrel BBQ Facebook page. His post began with the exclamation, “Shutdown!”
Blackburn expanded, “We have been getting many inquiries about our special offers during the shutdown. Like most of the area we have been watching this closely and hoping that our representatives across the river can figure things out. Sadly, it appears they have let us down again.
Starting Monday, and every workday going forward, Pork Barrel will offer one FREE PULLED PORK SANDWICH to any Federal Employee as long as the Government Shutdown continues. EVERY Monday – Friday for the Duration of this Mess.
This time we are also extending an additional offer: Any member of congress that comes with a colleague from across the aisle to talk out solutions will be fed for free. Come in and talk we’ll talk care of your meal. Good BBQ can fix anything.”
Finally, Blackburn reached out to his own Congressman Don Beyer to “contact us offline if we can help you set this up.”
