Keeping Your Children Healthy During the Pandemic

Alexandria, VA – In its nightly email, the city continues to urge residents to stay at home, unless going out is essential. And when out, they stress the importance of maintaining six feet of distance around others. Parents: Tonight’s update is for you.

With school out and your children home, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released information on how you can help them stay healthy. It is recommended that time with other children and older adults is limited. Children two and older should wear a face mask when out in the community and practice social distancing, just like adults. The information also includes ways to keep them engaged socially since they cannot be with their friends and tips on how to continue their learning. To review the CDC’s recommendations, click HERE.

The CDC is concerned about children with special needs, too. If your child has developmental, behavioral, or emotional differences, you may be looking for resources on how to help him or her during this time. Click HERE for a list of frequently asked questions that can provide assistance and reassurance.

Finally, a reminder that Alexandria is taking part in Resilience Week Virginia from May 3-9. During the weeklong event, ideas and resources will be shared to help the entire community. The event is also meant to demonstrate the power of resilience through various exercises like meditation. Click HERE for more information. Our lives are filled with confusion and uncertainty now. But there are better and brighter days ahead. Always.
