Alexandria Chef Leigh Orleans Wins Food Network’s ‘Chopped,’ Takes Home $10,000 Prize
Local chef earns title of Chopped Champion after impressing judges with inventive dishes
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria chef Leigh Orleans is officially a Food Network champion.
The local culinary talent won the Food Network competition series Chopped (Season 64, Episode 8), taking home the $10,000 grand prize after surviving all three rounds of the high-pressure cooking showdown and impressing judges with a creative dessert made from leftover ingredients.
Orleans, already well known in Alexandria’s culinary circles for her private chef work and previous appearance on Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, advanced through the appetizer and entrée rounds before reaching the dessert finale.
“I was so excited to make it to the dessert round and get to cook all three rounds,” Chef Leigh told the panel of judges before presenting her final dish: vanilla wafer ice cream with a cola strawberry balsamic gastrique, finished with a chopped nuts and wafer crumble.
Her inventive approaches ultimately secured the win. For brilliantly reimagining leftovers under the pressure of the clock, Orleans earned the title of Chopped Champion and the show’s $10,000 prize.
The episode showcased Orleans’ calm demeanor, creativity, and ability to think quickly under intense competition conditions — qualities viewers in Alexandria have come to associate with the chef over the years.
Support quickly poured in online following the broadcast.
“I watched too, and I think she was awesome — such an exciting competition, super talented,” wrote supporter Rose Gentile on social media.
Chef Mia Castro and several other well-known chefs also congratulated Orleans in the comments section of her Instagram post celebrating the victory.
For Orleans, the win marked another major milestone in a career that has steadily expanded beyond the local dining scene.
Many Alexandria residents first became familiar with her through her appearance on Hell’s Kitchen, where she competed under celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and gained national exposure while navigating one of television’s most demanding culinary competitions.
Since then, Orleans has continued building her culinary brand through private chef work, catering, pop-up experiences, and appearances at nationally recognized food events. Zebra previously reported on her experience cooking at The Masters Tournament, where she worked among elite culinary teams serving one of the country’s most prestigious sporting events.
Friends and supporters say the Chopped victory felt especially meaningful because it showcased Orleans’ creativity and personality in a format that rewards instinct, adaptability, and technical skill.
The win also shines another national spotlight on Alexandria’s growing food scene, which continues gaining recognition for its mix of independent chefs, hospitality entrepreneurs, and creative culinary talent.
With a Food Network championship now added to her resume, Orleans’ profile is likely to continue rising well beyond the Alexandria area.
