ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 hiring bonus to Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services certified Jail Officers/Deputies. The minimum salary is $65,683.

The job post on the City of Alexandria website reads in part:

We are seeking candidates dedicated to serving with honor, respect, and courage. You must have unquestioned integrity and a commitment to serve others in this rewarding profession. Applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff I should possess exceptional flexibility, with a willingness to work both day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned. We are accepting applications on a continual basis and will notify candidates of the opportunity to attend the first component of our selection process when it is scheduled. Applicants for this position should possess a desire to become fully DCJS law enforcement certified.

Newly hired deputies work five 12-hour shifts each week, days or nights.  Each shift works roughly 15 days every month. Because the hours total 87.5 at the end of every two-week pay period, deputies are eligible for $6,000 in built-in overtime every year.

For the most part, deputies work in the Tisdale Adult Detention Center. The facility houses 350 inmates. Duties include managing inmate living unites, handling discipline, responding to inmate requests, supervising their daily activities, and resolving issues as they arise.
