Alexandria Goes Green for Big St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Fun Dog Show, Saturday, March 2

Don Your Green and Plaids, Bring the Dogs and Set Your Chairs Along King Street!

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) and the Ballyshaners will once again make King Street the most festive place to be on Saturday, March 2, with the annual Fun Dog Show and St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Thousands of spectators are expected to line King Street for Old Town’s largest annual family event.Beginning at 11 a.m., the Fun Dog Show brings together Alexandria’s most festive animals to vie for the titles of “Most St. Paddy’s Spirit,” “Best Human/Canine Look-Alike” and “Most Creative Costume.”  These awards will be determined by audience applause with the help of Fun Dog Show host Peggy Fox from WUSA-9.

The Ballyshaners St. Patrick’s Day Parade will start at 12:30 PM.

The event costs approximately $50,000 per year. Showcasing Alexandria, the parade features at least four pipe bands, numerous Irish dance schools, the Notre Dame Alumni Band and more than 100 additional parade units.

Old Town Alexandria’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is organized and paid for by The Ballyshaners (“Old Towners” in Gaelic), a volunteer organization committed to promoting and preserving Irish heritage and culture. The Ballyshaners are recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable organization making your contributions TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
