Alexandria turned green on March 2, as thousands of people celebrated the annual Ballyshaners St. Patrick’s Day Parade on King Street.
“It was perfect weather and we had a great crowd,” Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson told The Zebra. “It was really neat to have the NYPD Pipes and Drums here, and now we’ve got the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the region.”
More than 2,000 people participated in the parade, which was sponsored by the Ballyshaners, a nonprofit dedicated to Irish heritage. This year’s Grand Marshall was Shawn McLaughlin, CEO McLaughlin Ryder Investments, and the parade included the famous City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums, Shriners and Kena mini red Corvettes, scores of Irish dancers, local businesses and, of course, local politicians.
