Volunteers Prepare for Community Service Day

Over 20 Projects in One Day!

By Mary Wadland

ALEXANDRIA,VA- Volunteer Alexandria, in partnership with the City of Alexandria, will host its annual Spring for Alexandria Community Service Day on Friday, May 17, starting at 12:30 pm. Citizens and businesses alike are encouraged to join us on this annual day of service.

“Spring for Alexandria is a fantastic opportunity for both the City and the local private sector to join together to complete projects that benefit our shared community. For many years, the City has partnered with Volunteer Alexandria to help our non-profits and city agencies complete projects in one day, instead of waiting for the resources for months and/or years. The City of Alexandria is a wonderful place to live, work, play and on this day–give,” suggested Deputy City Manager Debra Collins.

During this incredible day, hundreds of volunteers come together as individuals and teams to complete more than 20 service projects for nonprofits across the City. From building vegetable gardens and sorting food at our local food bank to alleviate food insecurity, to painting shelters and clubs, every hour contributed to this Community Service Day improves the lives of Alexandrians.

“Allan Myers is a heavy civil construction company in Virginia building projects that connect people to the goods and services of the community around them. We are dedicated to helping those in our communities that could use a helping hand to step up in their own lives. We believe that every person deserves to achieve the American Dream and we want to be part of providing the pathway to get there,” says Wes Hill, an estimator at Allan Myers.

“Serving the community alongside fellow neighbors is a great way to get people engaged in our community,” said Executive Director for Volunteer Alexandria Marion Brunken, who added, “Many of our volunteers have been a part of this event for years and some groups are newcomers, but we welcome anyone interested in making a difference this Spring for Alexandria Community Service Day.” Register today:
