Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Sheriff’s office is warning city residents of a telephone scam targeting Virginia residents. The victims are told that they are speaking with a representative of the Sheriff, that they owe money for outstanding fines and must pay to avoid being arrested.
“The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office does not make such calls and will never request payment over the phone,” The Sheriff’s office said in a statement. “If you receive such a call, immediately hang up. Do not provide the caller with any information and do not answer any questions, even if they threaten arrest.”
Other personal information may be asked of the caller as well, including credit card information and/or bank account details.
All concerned and victimized residents should contact the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office at 703-746-4114.
