ALEXANDRIA, VA- Crime in the Port City has continued to take a turn for the better. The Alexandria Police Department announced that all Part 1 crime decreased 1.7 percent in 2018 over the previous year,and nuisance crime is down 23%. It’s a continuing trend – the fifth year in a row that crime has decreased.
“Reducing crime is and will always be our top priority,” Alexandria Police Chief Michael L. Brown said. “Throughout the year we work closely with community members and groups to reduce and prevent crime. Protecting lives and providing safety for the public is key to ensuring our city remains a vibrant and healthy community.”
“Overall this has been a good year for Alexandria, especially when compared to other jurisdictions in the area,” Brown said in a previous interview.
