ALEXANDRIA, VA – Everyone loses in an act of gun violence. In the instant loved ones are taken by a bullet, there is a ripple effect. Countless lives are changed forever.
Hundreds of anti-gun violence advocates wore orange in Alexandria’s Market Square on Friday, June 7, 2019.
Orange is the color that Hadiya Pendleton‘s friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15 – just one week after performing at president Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. Since then, orange has been the defining color of the gun violence prevention movement.
Speakers at the event included members of the Virginia General Assembly and Salli Garrigan, a survivor of the Columbine High School shooting.
