Alexandria, VA – Happy Fourth of July, readers! This week’s column is special. It centers on parties that celebrate our county’s birthday. So tell all your friends and family. Let’s throw America the biggest bash ever!

An American Celebration at Mount Vernon

Thursday, July 4

George Washington’s Mount Vernon

There might not be a better way to celebrate July Fourth than to spend the day at our first president’s estate! There will be daytime fireworks and a colonial military re-enactment. Independence Day Fireworks Cruises

Rosemont Fourth of July Celebration

Join in the festivities at Alexandria’s oldest celebration. It has taken place for more than 50 years. Rocklands BBQ will provide food!

Northern Virginia Casual Bicycling Group Fireworks Ride

This ship is the talk of the town! It arrived just a day ago and crowds have already gathered to see the replica Revolutionary War-era vessel. There’s no boarding yet – at least not until late summer – but join the crowd and welcome Alexandria’s newest treasure.

Friday, July 5–Sunday, July 7

Friday: 5–8 p.m., Saturday: 12–8 p.m., and Sunday: 12–4 p.m. (Free admission, plus cost of food and beverage.)

For the second weekend in a row, Port City Brewing is having a huge party! Check out all kinds of craft beers. Chadwicks (Friday & Saturday), Rocklands BBQ (Saturday), the Smoking Kow (Sunday) and Dolci Gelati are providing food. Live music and DJs will entertain. Bring as many of your friends as possible.

Note: All outdoor pools in the city will be open from 10 a.m.–5:45 p.m. Chinquapin will be open from 6 a.m.–3 p.m.
