Sheriff: The Phone Scammers Are Back! Don’t Fall For It…

The victims are told they owe money for outstanding fines and must pay to avoid being arrested.

Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Sheriff’s office is once again warning city residents of a telephone scam targeting Virginia residents. The victims are told that they are speaking with a representative of the Sheriff, that they owe money for outstanding fines and must pay to avoid being arrested.

“We’ll never ask for money over the phone,” Deputy Morgan Garner, a department spokeswoman, said at a recent Del Ray Business Association meeting. “So, just ignore it.”

Other personal information may be asked of the caller as well, including credit card information and/or bank account details.

All concerned and victimized residents should contact the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office at 703-746-4114.
