Old Town Beer, Wine and Dog Festival is August 17

It’s a Dog DayZ of August Party: Go Dogs Go!

By Kelly MacConomy

ALEXANDRIA,VA- Old Town is going to the dogs more than ever – just in time for those Dog DayZ of August. Head down to Waterfront Park with man and woman’s best friends Saturday, August 17 for the Old Town Beer, Wine and Dog Festival. Local craft beer, Virginia wineries, Alexandria restaurant fare, training services, and good dog goods will be on hand and on paw to promote dog adoption in a social atmosphere, benefiting furry best friends in attendance and regional animal rescue groups.

Bring the kids – two and four-legged. The pooch party begins at 11:00 AM with live music and kennels of fun activities to keep things barking until 6:00 PM. A large, grass off-leash enclosed play area is on site to really let loose. There’s even a dog art installation should the mood to decorate strike. Foster dogs available for adoption will be on site.

Whether you are looking to offer a dog in a shelter or foster care a forever home or simply love dogs and want to fetch some locally-sourced draft libations and epicurean and z~oenological delights, this festival is spot on. The organizers of the festival conceived of a good-time alternative to more commonplace pet-adoption opportunities. The concept intends to facilitate surrendered dogs’ socialization with people and other pups in a festive atmosphere.

Entry is $5 per person. Proceeds go to support local animal welfare leagues and groups such as the Lucky Dog Rescue. Sit, stay, and play all day. No ruff housing!

Waterfront Park is located at 1A Prince Street behind Virtue Feed and Grain and Mai Thai restaurants between King Street and The Strand.
