4MR Land-Based Clean-Up with Vice Mayor & Girls Scouts

Saturday, Sep 21, 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM
4109 Mt Vernon Ave

Join the Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker and Girl Scout troops in a stream cleanup for the Silver Award project for Healthy Waterways by members of Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop 3966. Clean waterways are important to the health of the region. Land-based clean-ups focus on areas that are more accessible when the vegetation is dormant, and on locations where we can get to larger items, such as shopping carts, at low tide. Meet at the plaza area next to the Four Mile Run Conservatory Center. RSVP to receive additional details and updates: http://4MRCleanup.eventbrite.com

WHAT TO EXPECT: We will spread out to cover areas on both sides of the Run along the bike/walk trails, streambank, and/or wetland areas. There are a few spots where litter has concentrated, as well as areas that are prone to wind-borne and tide-borne items. Please note: – Snacks, trash grabbers, bags, & gloves will be provided. – There will be a water jug for refilling water bottles or using paper cups. – Mud boots are optional, but sturdy shoes are recommended. We have several sets of waders & boots available as well. – Dress for warmth, with clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. – Other helpful items: reusable water bottle, hat, multi-tool or pocketknife. We intend to wrap up by 11:00 am, but it is fine if you need to leave earlier. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at: [email protected]
