Honoring 45 Years of History at The Torpedo Factory Art Center
Alexandria, VA – Join the fun celebration for the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Sapphire Anniversary! Who would have thought that what started as a three-year experiment in 1974 to renovate the then-derelict plant would house 165 visual artists, 82 studios, and seven galleries nearly half a century later?
The City of Alexandria will host a free public reception on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Art Center. Several special guests will be in attendance, such as Mayor Justin Wilson and U.S. Rep. Donald Beyer, as well the Art Center’s founder, Marian Van Landingham.
To commemorate the anniversary, guests will be able to create silkscreen prints to take home, visit select studios for artist demonstrations, and craft hands-on projects. Light refreshments will be provided to fuel your creativity during the event.
