BEEP! Hundreds of Smoke Alarms to be Installed This Weekend in Alexandria

Hundreds will participate in the installation in the West Old Town area.

Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Fire Department’s ASSIST team will be working American Red Cross and Volunteer Alexandria to test and install smoke alarms in the West Old Town area from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

“We’ll be installing and testing smoke alarms in private homes,” said Alexandria Fire Department spokeswoman Raytevia Evans. “So far this year, this is the largest installation date considering more than 100 volunteers have registered to participate.”

There are more than 700 homes in the targeted area and the Red Cross is providing the alarms (a maximum of three alarms per home are being installed), and teams will coordinate at the Jefferson-Houston gymnasium at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
