Alexandria, VA – It was Old Town’s first Oyster Week and two restaurant owners with a friendly rivalry always at play, Trae Lamond from Chadwicks and Bill Blackburn of Pork Barrel BBQ, threw down a challenge to each other on social media. Who could eat more oysters?

Within hours the post was blowing up and the community wanted in on the action. The next day, the two sat down at an outside table at Whiskey & Oyster with a couple hundred oysters and their favorite beverages.

A tuxedoed emcee, James Cullum from ALX Now, gave play-by-play commentary and the event was livestreamed by Zebra.

After only about 35 minutes, the competition concluded in a tie only when the restaurant ran out of oysters, with each man slurping down 103 of the tasty bivalve mollusks.

And what Alexandra event, even a friendly bet between guys, would be complete without a charitable component? “I think we raised over $5,000,” Blackburn told The Zebra the next day. “Next year, we’ll make this a real thing and do even better! And we’ll have way more oysters!”
