ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Saturday, December 14, 2019, City Council unanimously voted to extend the Memo of Understanding regarding the Micro-Mobility Scooter program with a few caveats.

Scooters are banned from traveling on ALL city sidewalks, and there can be no more than one rider per device. As Mayor Justin Wilson joked, “Next week they will probably come out with tandem scooters and we will have to revisit this piece of the ordinance.”

In addition, the City Manager shall immediately form a Scooter Task Force to be comprised of representatives from the Alexandria business associations, as well as from each planning commission zone, and many at-large members, with emphasis on forming a balanced group from all parts of the City.
