Fort Hunt Safeway All Set for Ribbon-Cutting

Alexandria, VA — Safeway will unveil renovations to its Fort Hunt store at 7900 Fort Hunt Road in Alexandria, VA, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 6, at 10 a.m. Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck is expected to join Safeway leaders, store staff, and customers for the celebration, which will include live music from the New Line Brass Band, and refreshments for everyone.

“We are pleased to share renovations throughout the store that will enhance the grocery shopping experience for our Alexandria neighbors,” said Tom Lofland, President of Safeway’s Eastern Division. “We have added new features, inside and out, expanding our selections in multiple departments, including more than 1,600 new specialty products. Our customers are sure to be pleased with the results.”

Chris Corlette is director of the remodeled store, which offers many enhancements, beginning with a new façade, new paint, a new parking lot, and the addition of LED lights in the parking lot.

The deli has added new cases and has expanded specialty cheese and ready-to-go prepared meals. The deli has also added a section for pre-sliced meats and cheeses, and has increased the variety of sandwiches and salads.

The meat and seafood department has also grown, with the addition of a new full-service meat case offering custom-cut meats from Safeway butchers. A new full-service seafood case now offers an expanded selection of fresh organic and wild seafood varieties from which to choose.

The produce department has all-new fixtures, an expanded selection of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, and additional organics and nuts, with more variety from which to choose. The assortment of premium juice and beverages, including Kombucha, has also been increased.

The Fort Hunt Safeway has a full offering of baked-in-store breakfast and dessert items, with new gourmet cakes, as well as new frozen ice cream cakes.  The grocer is also now offering new bulk donut and bagel displays, and new artisan bread and roll displays.

The remodeled full-service floral department offers fresh cut flowers, roses, and bouquets, as well as assorted blooming varieties of plants, orchids, and many kinds of foliage to decorate home and office. The florist can also create custom arrangements. In addition to the array of live floral products, the department also has a large assortment of balloons for special occasions, and offers Debi Lilly glassware and home goods that are trendy and affordable. The Safeway floral department also carries candy bouquets and gift items for all ages.

Safeway has added a new collection of premium wines, and increased overall space and selection in the beer and wine department.

With this remodel, Safeway’s Fort Hunt store has added over 1,600 new specialty items across grocery, dairy, and frozen foods. The store has also expanded the variety of natural, organic and specialty home health and beauty items, and also increased seasonal space and offerings.

Traditional Safeway features include a full-service pharmacy, deli, bakery, floral, meat and seafood, beer/wine and produce departments. The store also offers busy shoppers time-saving amenities including four new self-checkout counters and offers Instacart service with RUSH delivery. The Fort Hunt Safeway, which operates from 5 am until midnight seven days a week, has added a customer service desk at which customers can now purchase money orders, send money via Western Union, and pay bills.

Safeway has a long and proud history of being a supportive member of the communities it serves.  As part of the ribbon-cutting celebration, Safeway will continue its legacy of philanthropy and community involvement, and present donations to two local community organizations: New Hope Housing and United Community.
