Alexandria, VA – A SERVE-a-thon is a service event where hundreds of volunteers come together as individuals and teams to complete 20 or more service projects for nonprofits across the city. From building vegetable gardens to alleviate food insecurity, or sorting food at a food bank, to landscaping a shelter, every hour contributed on this day improves the lives of Alexandrians. “It’s hard work, great comradery, and team spirit. They’re great hosts and it was very fulfilling,” says Team Captain Kevin Greenlief, Team Finance, City of Alexandria.

How does the SERVE-a-thon work?

1. Individual volunteers or a team registers online, pledges $25, and participates as an individual or is part of a team. All volunteers are encouraged to raise additional funds from their families, friends, colleagues, etc. The top individual and team fundraisers will receive great prizes.

2. Based on skills, interest, and number of people, the team will be assigned to a project.

3. Following an afternoon of service, everyone meets for a thank you happy hour celebration.

Support for SERVE-a-thon as a fundraiser or a donor helps Volunteer Alexandria recruit, coordinate, manage, and prepare volunteers to give their time and talent to local nonprofit agencies in need of human capital.

Your support allows these nonprofits to focus on their missions of conquering Alexandria’s community challenges with the assistance of ready, willing, and able volunteers.
