Alternative Routes for Alexandria Metrorail Closures & Service Updates

Effective March 26, the Metro Pandemic Task Force announced that the Eisenhower Avenue and Van Dorn Stations will close as part of the 17 closures.

Alexandria, Va – As Metro takes continued steps to conserve critical resources and protect their operators and community, the Metro Pandemic Task Force announced the closing of 17 additional stations, effective Thursday, March 26, 2020. The following routes may assist passengers impacted by the Van Dorn and Eisenhower Metrorail closures. You can also find these alternative routes listed on our website.

Alternate Routings for Passengers Impacted by Metrorail Station Closures

From West End:

  • Take the DASH AT-2 Eastbound to King Street Metro. Route operates every 30 minutes all-day long from Lincolnia and Beauregard Street to King Street Metro via Southern Towers and Seminary Road.
  • Take the DASH AT-5 Eastbound to King Street Metro. Route operates every 30 minutes all-day long from Van Dorn Metro and Landmark Mall to King Street Metro via Van Dorn Street, Bradlee Shopping Center and King Street.
  • Take the DASH AT-8 Eastbound to King Street Metro. Route operates every 15-30 minutes from Landmark to King Street Metro via Duke Street. Route operates hourly between Van Dorn Metro and Landmark Mall via Whiting Street.
  • Take the Metrobus 7A/7F Northbound to the Pentagon Metro via Shirlington.
  • Take the Metrobus 25B Northbound to Ballston Metro via Southern Towers.
  • Take the Metrobus 28A Eastbound to King Street Metro via Seminary Road and King Street.
  • Take the Metrobus 29K/N Eastbound to King Street Metro via Duke Street.

From Eisenhower Valley:

  • Take the DASH AT-5 Westbound to Eisenhower Metro and AT-7 Eastbound to Lee Center. The AT-5 operates every 30 minutes from Van Dorn Metro to Eisenhower Metro. Upon arriving at Eisenhower Metro, passengers may need to wait 5-10 minutes to transfer to the AT-7 Eastbound to Lee Center which will stop at King Street Metro.
  • Take the DASH AT-7 Eastbound from Eisenhower Metro to King Street Metro. Route will be operating every 30 minutes from Eisenhower Metro to Lee Center via King Street Metro.
  • Take the DASH AT-8 Eastbound to King Street Metro. Route operates every 15-30 minutes from Landmark to King Street Metro via Duke Street. Route operates every 60 minutes between Van Dorn Metro and Landmark Mall via Whiting Street.
  • Take Fairfax Connector Routes 231, 232, 321 & 322 from Van Dorn Metro to Franconia-Springfield Metro.

Although these two stations will be closed to rail passengers, buses will continue to serve the stations in their normal locations.

SERVICE UPDATES

  • DASH will be discontinuing the AT2X, effective tomorrow, Thursday, March 26, due to extremely low ridership. Passengers traveling between King Street Metro and the Mark Center will still be able to use the AT2 to complete their trip.
  • The King Street Metro will remain open, however, the north entrance on Cameron Street will be closed effective tomorrow, Thursday, March 26.
