Resources for Pet Owners During the Pandemic
Alexandria, VA – Pets are family too. During this difficult time, there are resources to help pet owners.
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) can assist pet owners in need. To date, the organization has provided over 5,000 pounds of pet supplies to residents.
The Community Pet Pantry also supplies wet and dry food, along with other items for our furry friends.
Feel free to contact the AWLA to discuss the supplies needed for your pet. They can be reached at community@
For seniors who cannot leave home, the AniMeals on Wheels program, a partnership between the AWLA and Senior Services of Alexandria, provides monthly deliveries of pet supplies. To find out eligibility requirements, call Senior Services of Alexandria at 703-836-4414, ext. 113.
Unsafe at Home?
Current directives encourage people to stay home as much as possible. And this is a stressful time for everyone. What if staying home isn’t safe because of the threat of domestic violence or sexual assault?
There is assistance for people in those situations. Alexandria’s Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 703-746-4911. The Sexual Assault Hotline is available at Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-638-7273.
