Alexandria, VA – The Del Ray Business Association launched First Thursday: Porch Parties to keep Del Ray’s popular street festival tradition alive while maintaining social distancing standards. Community members were urged to support their local restaurants with carry-out orders while participating in many activities that promote community while wearing masks and keeping a social distance.

During May’s First Thursday, the Del Ray Business Association collected 1,030 canned food items for the Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry. “It takes a village – and the village really came through,” said Grace Episcopal Associate Rector Jason Roberson, noting that the food pantry has been serving over five times more families than their pre-COVID-19 numbers.

First Thursday: Red, White, and Blue will take place on Thursday, July 2. Whether the event will be a traditional First Thursday or the socially distant “porch party” model must be determined closer to the date in consultation with public health officials.
