Taking a page from the PBS series Antiques Roadshow, the new show will feature Del Ray’s Monika Schiavo and other experts valuing items such as antiques, furniture, jewelry, artwork, sterling silver, firearms, vintage clothing and political memorabilia.

Schiavo manages a real estate and appraisal company, House and Home Properties. A former antiques dealer and self-declared “serial remodeler,” she earned a master’s degree from the Smithsonian’s History of Decorative Arts program in conjunction with GWU, and worked as the director of rare books, maps and autographs for a division of Quinns Auction Galleries.

“I’m beyond excited to join the crew at Z-TV doing what I love to do,” she said. “I can’t wait to help people find out a little more about some of their favorite items.”

Zebra publisher Mary Wadland says, “Everyone has a little something that perhaps they’ve inherited from a parent, an aunt or uncle, or even a neighbor. Maybe they happened to pick something up at a yard sale or flea market. How often have they wondered, ‘Is this thing trash or treasure?’ We want to know! There are so many great stories out there surrounding the things we all keep at home.”

Want to be a part of Trash or Treasure? Bring your items for appraisal to the Del Ray Vintage and Flea Market this Saturday, October 10, from 9 am to 1 pm. The market will be sprawled across two parking lots on the corner of E. Bellefonte and Mt. Vernon Avenues in Del Ray. Schiavo’s appraisal booth will be set up in the parking lot behind the Salvation Army.

Be sure to watch the premiere of Trash or Treasure on Z-TV LIVE!, found on The Zebra Press Facebook page, Wednesday, October 28, at 7 pm.
