Alexandria, VA – King Street was temporarily blocked on Monday, October 19 by what looked like two huge black blockades. After some official chatter about sustainability and green energy, the black fabric was unfurled off each, revealing two shiny new electric buses being added to the DASH fleet. The familiar gray puffs of smoke and rumbles of Alexandria’s normal diesel and hybrid bus engines were absent as a gentle hum was emitted from the blue and yellow passenger beasts instead.

Councilwoman Amy Jackson and Governor Ralph Northam exchange a congratulatory fist bump.

Mayor Justin Wilson and DASH CEO Josh Baker were joined by Governor Ralph Northam and Secretary of Transportation Sharon Valentine for the ceremony, as were members of City Council and other interested officials.

Six electric buses are immediately being put into use in phase one of the long-range plan to switch to 100% sustainable zero-emission buses by 2035.
