ALEXANDRIA, VA-Beginning Monday, March 15, DASH will begin fare collection and front-door boarding on buses. The cost per trip will be $2.

“This policy change brings us closer to resuming a ‘new normal’ of transit service while continuing to prioritize the safety of our employees, riders and community,” said Josh Baker, DASH CEO/General Manager.

Fare collection and regular boarding were suspended nearly a year ago to avoid crowding and reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.

With a return to usual operations, the transit company is encouraging riders to use the DASH or SmarTrip app to continue touchless payment. The DASHbus app allows passengers to purchase bus fare from their phones with a credit/debit card, PayPal account, or SmartBenefits account. A single trip fare is available on the app instantly after purchase. Multi-trip tickets are also available.

Download the app on GooglePlay or the Apple Store. To learn more, visit dashbus.com/ride-dash/mobileapp.

Also of note, DASH is bringing back discounts and fare-free rides for students and seniors.

Remember, face masks are required to ride.
